The Project

AJA Video Systems manufactures professional video hardware for broadcast, post-production, and ProAV markets. From 2016 to 2022, I was one of two technical writers responsible for all product documentation.

What I Delivered

Bridge Live

120-page flagship guide for AJA’s most complex multi-path live streaming system. Covered signal routing, encoding profiles, redundancy failover, and REST API control.

Bridge NDI 3G

120-page companion guide for NDI protocol streaming. Documented network discovery, bandwidth management, and multi-channel configuration.

70+ Product Manuals

Full catalog coverage: encoders, converters, routers, frame synchronizers, monitors. 30–120 pages each, maintained across firmware releases.

REST API Documentation

Initiated and built the company’s first REST API docs — 8-chapter developer guide covering 7 products across the Ki Pro and HELO lines. Partnered directly with engineers through iterative review cycles.

How I Worked

  • Configured multi-product setups daily (encoders, routers, converters, monitors) — hands-on validation, not speculation
  • Tracked signal flows across 4+ devices to verify documented behavior
  • Served as informal QA, catching errors before release
  • Reduced support ticket volume through comprehensive self-service documentation

Skills Demonstrated

Developed templates, style guides, and revision workflows that held up across 70+ products.
Physically configured the products I documented — not relying on engineer descriptions alone. Signal flows, connection diagrams, and procedures were tested hands-on.
Built documentation structures for product categories that didn’t have precedents (multi-path streaming systems, REST API control interfaces).
